DIY Amazon, South American themed aquarium background
by Chuck on Sep.27, 2007, under DIY Ideas
Here is some pics of the Background i made for Scat (Craig) ![]()
Same method as the other one

Cut poly to size of tank and build the shape with pieces of poly
Go over with spray foam and use a wood rasp to shape when dry u can use an angle grinder with a sanding attachment if you wish
NOW melt away the areas you want to be hollow with a blowtorch

Render with your light base color

Keep adding your render until you get the desired affect

Cut to size to fit in tank openings
Spray with pond sealer
silicone to back of tank
render up joins
seal joins with pond sealer
leave for 7 days before filling with water

I love the idea of what you have done. Im interesting in makeing branches or root section to cover over the undergravel filter lift tubes, and perhaps create logs that hide hoses and air tubes to allow bubble up.
There is a substance called “oomoo” that can be used to make copies of wooden branches, rocks, etc, and allow pouring resin inside the molds. Have to get the materials, and find some branches and stones to make casts of.
The idea is to keep the corners looking natural
l and hide the lift tubes and air stones.

I really like the idea you have executed. The background looks awesome. Please tell us in your post what paint were you using. hat brand and what type. Do you have a picture of the paint can?
Also this pond sealer you used. There are many different types, which one did you use?
